I am a woman that was truly inspired by Elizabeth Edwards, and her advocacy for others, even when she was in her own deepest struggles in her life. I was always very interested in her thoughts and ideas, and when I’d see her on the talk shows, I’d admire her intelligence, and how she could communicate so well, what was important to her. I have recently met a woman that has also been through near death double cancers, and she has that love of life and fighting spirit, I could see in Elizabeth Edwards. This woman, Margaret has a farm in Leicester, NC, that she is putting on the market for sale, as she is now 70 years old. I am writing because I am looking for a person, that as I have been, so inspired to make this farm, a woman’s retreat for cancer survivors. I am looking for a foundation that would purchase this farm, and I would work as a volunteer to bring women to this beautiful place for a week, to experience the beauty and healing of nature. My husband and I own a company called Funny Business and recently did a week long fundraiser for Gilda’s House in Grand Rapids, MI. I am exploring your interest in making this farm and retreat center for women, as a legacy for Elizabeth Edwards memory. In my own life, as I struggled with near death, many years ago, this place in Leicester, NC provided me the comfort and solace that stayed with me over the last 16 years, even though I could not be there. I would hope that even a short experience at this farm, for women fighting to live, would give them strength, beauty and some peace. Thank you. Sincerely, Laurie Yoder
