Elizabeth Anania Edwards, mother, author, advocate died today at her home in Chapel Hill, surrounded by her family.
Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.
On behalf of Elizabeth we want to express our gratitude to the thousands of kindred spirits who moved and inspired her along the way. Your support and prayers touched our entire family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wade Edwards Foundation which benefits the Wade Edwards Learning Lab at www.wade.org.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Elizabeth’s children and family members. She was an inspiration to all women and will be truly missed.
Elizabeth Edwards’ spirit, strength, and voice will be missed. She was an inspiration and a person that I, personally, looked up to. When her life took a tragic turn, she showed the world tremendous grace and strength and she came up the winner. I will miss you Elizabeth Edwards! You have joined the other magnificent women this country has known. We will be forever grateful that you were with us for this short time. God has acquired a true angel.
To Cate, Emma Claire, and Jack,
I am so very sadened and sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a remarkable, amazing, classy, strong and wonderful women. She reminds me so very much of my mother who I also lost 4 years ago to cancer. It’s still sometimes hard to believe she’s still gone after all this time. But know this, your Mother loved you more then life itself, it’s an unconditional love that can only be given by a Mother. You’ll wonder how you’ll move through life without her, but know she’s always there with you in everything you do. The pain you feel today wont always be as strong and as deep. As time goes by, the pain does ease. You will always miss her, that never goes away, but you will find ways to go on without her as a physical presence in your life. She will want you to become the people you were always meant to be. She’ll want you to be happy and find laughter again in your life. You owe it to her to go on with live and do all the things she wasn’t able to do. When I travel I bring my mothers passport with me as she loved travel so and it’s my way of having her there with me. She knows you’ll NEVER forget her or the love she had for you. Allow the love and support of others help you. No one can ever take her place, but let your heart open enough to let others love you and care for you. I pray for you all and the rest of your family.
May your family forever hold on to the wonderful memories you help to create. I share their hurt and their pain. Having lost my mother two years ago to cancer and a brother, earlier this year-I fully understand. I know that God will keep his loving arms around those babies, Catherine, her siblings and Mr. Edwards as well.
May you rest in peace. I will remember you as a lady of much grace and “resilience”.
I want to express my sympathy to the Edwards family on the loss of Elizabeth. I have been inspired by the grace and strength exhibited by her through out her life. To me she was a modern hero for woman to look up to. As someone who has faced challenges in life I drew a lot of strength from Elizabeth. I will continue to pray for her family.
May she be together again with her darling son, Wade and may her children find comfort and peace that their mother was an inspiration for all. Rest in peace, Elizabeth. God Bless you all.
I most remember Mrs. Edwards as a very energetic, happy, healthy, and active mother. I went to Aldert Root and have fond memories of playing with Cate and Mrs. Edwards was never far away. One of the best childhood memories that I have of a birthday party was at the Edwards’ home. Barbie showed up in her pink corvette! A fantastic family. May Mrs. Edwards Rest in Peace in the cradle of God’s Love. Peace, Love, and Light to the Edwards’ Family.
My love and deepest sympathies to Cate, Emma Claire and Jack on the loss of your mother. She inspired us all with her strength, positive attitude and the love she had for all of you. What a wonderful role model she was. I would have loved to have known her.
Her spirit will always be with you, guiding you through your lives. May God bless you and hold you all close.
God bless.

My sincere condolences to each of you, her family and friends. As a survivor of two cancers (one being breast), I found Elizabeth’s courageous battle most inspirational. She is a true role model for anyone fighting the dreaded disease of cancer. I am comforted by knowing that she is with her beloved Wade and now free of pain and suffering. She will be waiting for each of you at the gates of heaven!

Rest in peace, you brave woman. Now you can be reunited with your beloved son. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Elizabeth was and is as role model for all of us who know and have known people who fought and are fighting cancer. Despite the pain and anguish she did suffer, she managed to reach out to others and inspire them with her courage.
I am so sorry. Your mom was a wonderful person and a classy lady. Always remember her fondly.
To the Edwards family, Elizabeth was God’s good servant. She blessed the world in wonderful ways and showed us what a woman of God was like. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. She is in God’s hand. Rest in Peace my dear sister, Elizabeth.
